| This website showcases only a few of the many paintings created by Ashot over the past thirty-five years of his career as an artist. In fact, with only a few exceptions, most of the works currently being shows are selected from the last five years. They are all oil paintings made using the finest materials in use today. In the first row, there are several examples drawn from a series of works which found favour with Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth the Second. Here you can see three portraits of Her Majesty and also of His Royal Highness Prince Philip, the Duke of Edinburgh. In all, the Queen owns more than twenty paintings by Ashot, including portraits, landscapes and still life. Her Majesty’s cousin, His Royal Highness Prince Michael of Kent is very fond of a portrait of his sainted mother, one of the twentieth century’s most renowned beauties, who was also the granddaughter and great-granddaughter of Russian Emperors. (That portrait is not currently on this website.) Also greatly admired, is a portrait painted by Ashot of Her Imperial Highness the Martyred Grand Duchess Elizabeth of Russia (sister of the last Empress Alexandra, and granddaughter of Queen Victoria). (That portrait is also not currently on the website.) Given that Ashot’s brushstrokes are astonishingly evocative, and the nuances of colour do not always convert perfectly, it is important to understand that the quality of these images is not as good as the quality of the original paintings themselves. Nevertheless, at the present time this website provides a good overall idea of the virtuosity of this living master painter, of the originality of his approach to his work, the great range of subject matter he has worked with, and the sublime results. Please keep in mind that what is available to be seen here is only a tiny portion of the great quantity of paintings by Ashot that currently exists in an impressive number of collections, as well as in galleries and museums in both hemispheres. (The US gallery currently carrying paintings by Ashot is Gallery 1870 in Yountville – an internationally popular resort in the heart of California Wine Country.)
